A Bit About Us
There's not that much to tell about us, so I feel funny adding a single post about it, but here goes.... I'm 18, Dan's twenty, and we were a year apart in high school. We started dating in my sophomore year, his junior year, and we just hit our two year anniversary. On May 30, 2007, he got down on one knee in the middle of his mama's kitchen and proposed. So we've set our date for December 12, 2009, when I will graduate from college as a LPN. Yay!
I'm a full time student, and he's a diesel mechanic (Yes, we're from Mississippi so, your probably thinking a mechanic is a pretty common job, but since Mississippi has so much river traffic i.e. the Mississippi River, plus TONS of 18 wheelers going through to get to New Orleans, you'd be surprised how FEW diesel mechanics there are. Depending on who you work for, a diesel mechanic brings in anywhere from $25 to $40 dollars an hour their first YEAR.! Sorry, I've just been given heck on the whole 'mississippi hick sterotype' on other boards, and I wanted to clear that up.) We love camping and we love fishing in the Mississippi River, and since I am the only girl cousin on my dad's side, while I'm a girly girl, I love hunting as well (Dan's a hunting fanatic.)
I have dreams of throwing this wedding on a $5,000-$8,000 budget, though with Dan's mom's help (she's alright, just pushy at times but I like her), it's looking as if it's going to be $20,000 or more. Sigh. I want to be married in a church, with a reception elsewhere, so we can drink. She wants me to rent out the mulitpurpose building of our town (its large, metal, and UGLY) for the entire night, and marry there PLUS do the reception there. Ugh. This would be MUCH more expensive that my church wedding. But she wants to "save money" by having her mother do my flowers and her sister do my cake (I've seen samples. Neither one is what I envisioned for my wedding. It doesn't even come CLOSE.) Plus Dan's no help, he says "Whatever you want, baby," when I ask for his opinion or when I BEG for his help with my FMIL, he tells her, "It's her wedding, mom, not yours, let her be." This of course, lasts for five hours and we're right back at step one.
We're fairly civil to one another, though sometimes (on my side anyway) it's forced. Like since my wedding is in December, I REALLY want red, silver, and white.. Roses, white fox-fur, poinsettas, twinkle lights, the works. Dan's mother expressed her concern that she thought a pink and white weddng would be a lot prettier, but I quickly won her over by showing her sample snapshots. Dan's sister, on the other hand, was horrible. After Dan's initial begging (this is something he really wanted) I agreed to make her a bridesmaid, the fourth on my line-up. Well, she informed me (now she's not a kid, she's a year older than me, 19!) that she would NOT be a bridesmaid unless she got to wear the pink dress of her choosing, and that Dan would pay for it (her mother and father talked to her and basically told her to grow up, she'd be wearing whatever color I chose.) Then she told me that she INSISTED on being the maid of honor, since she is in LOVE with Dan's best man, and wants to be walked down the aisle by him to "win him over", even though he's happily engaged. Sigh.
My family are happy as clams about this, though my brother, who's 15, doesn't like Dan at all (sounds familar) but my dad, who we both live with, has put him in his place plenty of times. Now... All I have to do is plan a wedding! Lol!
